Abe Rosenthal - Acquired by Ron on March 23, 1999
Who is this person:
Abe is the Chief Executive Officer of Prime Retail, a Chicago-based REIT the specializes in the ownership of Factory Outlet Centers. Prime is the largest Factory Outlet Center owner in the world, owning more than 50% of all publicly-owned space in the United States. The company has a market cap somewhere in the $2 Billion range, and is currently paying a 14% dividend, with little prospect for a dividend cut.
Why did you think this would be cool for Winter Camp?
Prime owns the Birch Run Outlet Center near D-A, as well as many of the premier outlet centers in the United States. I suspect that most of us have been in one of Prime's Centers, probably without knowing who owned the center. I thought it would be cool for people to think a little about the real estate we use and the people who own it. Besides, Abe is a good guy and he was willing to sign.
Any interesting details or stories behind the quest:
Salomon Smith Barney Institutional Investor Conference. Once again, amazed that anyone wanted his autograph. I explained that we have many actors and sports celebrities and that I wanted to get some business leaders, who can also serve as role models.
What did you get?
An inscribed printout of Prime's powerpoit presentation. It reads "Best Wishes in Winter Camp. Abe Rosenthal."

AIMCO controls approximately $16 billion in apartments, totalling over 379,000 apartments. AIMCO has over 13,000 employees. AIMCO is working to expand, with over 3.5 billion in outstanding tender offers. in
Why did you think this would be cool for Winter Camp?
Terry is recognized as one of the leaders in the REIT industry, with a highly progressive and active management style. He is also known for his high ethical standards, having taken a 4-6 million personal tax hit to eliminate a potential conflict of interest inherent in the UPREIT structure. as far as I know, he is the only REIT manager to do so. Most left the conflict in place ot avoid taking the tax hit. A man to admire.
Any interesting details or stories behind the quest:
Salomon Smith Barney Institutional Investor Meetings provided the opportunity. I already knew Terry, and he was quite surprised and honored when I explained the autograph project and asked for his participation.
What did you get?
A copy of AIMCO's 1997 Annual Report with the inscription "Best Wishes at Winter Camp! Boy Scouts and business are great. Terry Considine"

Jim Oelschlager - Acquired by Ron on 12-1-98
Who is this person:
Jim is the founder and Chief Executive Officer of Oak Associates. Oak Associates is a fund manager that manages two publicly traded funds, the White Oak and Pin Oak funds. Oak Associates also manages over $9 billion in funds for institutional investors in separate accounts. The company specializes in "good ideas" and manages one of the world's largest positions in 3com, and has done so since 3com came public.
Why did you think this would be cool for Winter Camp?
Jim manages over $9 billion in institutional capital with a staff of less than 15. He had an idea for how to manage money and a philosophy that he developed while running Firestone's pension. Under his stewardship, Firestone became one of the most successful pension funds of the modern era. He retired from Firestone and started his own company. To my thinking, this is the kind of entreprenuerial thinking that drives the American dream. We have plenty of actors and athletes, so I thought that a business leader would be a good addition and a role model for the Winter Campers.
Any interesting details or stories behind the quest:
Jim son, Mark Oelschlager, worked as my research assistant after he finished his MBA at Ohio State University. He told me about his father's company and how he started it. I always admired his dad, and when I met Jim, I found him to be a down to earth and truly pleasant guy. It's kind of funny, one day he was on Wall Street Week, the next he was sending our office Christmas chocolates. I called Mark and he called his dad. The autograph arrived the next day.
What did you get?
A piece of Oak Associates stationary dated 12-1-98 with the inscription "Best Wishes at Winter Camp. An investment in our future. Jim Oelschlager." Pretty cool thought coming from one of America's leading investment minds.

Bud Paxson - Acquired by Ron on 11/12/98
Who is this person:
Bud Paxson is a major figure in the telecommunications industry. He founded Home Shopping Network, which he sold for huge cash. He is now working on the Pax network, a group of 50+ stations that he owns. This network only shows family oriented programs, no violence, sex or bad language. Not necessarily my choice, but probably something that is needed.
Why did you think this would be cool for Winter Camp?
He was a speaker at the Outstanding Business Leaders Conference at Northwood University. He is a respected member of the community and seems genuinely committed to the family, as is Scouting. A Natural tie in.
Any interesting details or stories behind the quest:
Once again, my wife Jeanne Came through. She met him at the conference, explained the autograph collection and its purpose, and gave him my card.
What did you get?
This is the cool part. He sent me an autographed copy of his book inscribed "To Ron, God is with Us" Bud Paxson.
