On 12-1-2005, Dave Oakley continued collecting patterns on Origami
4 simple patterns are reserved for campers from 3 various
researched books about Origami. Each one has a related
topic at wintercamp and instructions will be shared!

On December 6, Steve continued weekly reports
Okay, so not weekly. Since the December 6 report, I did finish the garage. I've lost about 20 pounds since Labor Day and I've done some reading. I haven't written a chapter yet though and might not get to it this year...

On October 12, Steve sold a game
I actually sold a copy of Star Wars Epic Duels for about $45; I originally paid $6, so it wasn't a bad deal. I also had to buy a box to ship it in (should have thought of that when cleaning the garage) and wound up with a multi-pack. 4 more games are going to have to go to use the boxes.

On October 10, Steve completed Garage Cleaning
It's not perfect, but there is considerable progress. There is actually space to park a car, you can find the tools that are out there and the project is just about as complete as I can make it. I built more shelves and installed a number of hangers for garden tools. I also pitched about 15 bags of garbage. Even better, when Paul visited Wednesday he toured the garage and spotted a couple of boxes he'd left with gifts. Who says cleaning has to be its own reward?

On October 6, Steve developed a weekly plan.
  Continue Weight Loss
  Continue reading
  Finish Garage cleaning and reorg
Identify some games to relocate (possibly sell)
Write one chapter for After the Apocalypse

On October 6, Steve abandoned some tasks
Orcishlumberyard.com will never be developed (owner not interested).
Magicmimesandmore.com more will remain as is for now (owner not interested).
Deck - at least for this year.
Hot tub - at least for this year.

On October 6, Steve checked progress
Lost Ground:
Watch unwatched movies - Uh oh, there are a few things I haven't watched yet.
Gameroom Organization - more stuff in same space always leads to problems.
Still Pending:
Develop Weekly quiz tool for Winter Camp
Finish After the Apocalypse for Winter Camp
Develop maintenance tool for Migisi.org Chapter and Committee pages
  More UniversalMeasurementSystem.com content
  Improved calculators for UniversalMeasurementSystem.com
Make Weissreunion.com more than a placeholder
  Basement tile
  Develop Empire for Winter Camp
  Kitchen Remodel/reorg

On October 6, Steve checked his progress
I think like many I meander with no goals so progress update and some goals for the next week.
Completed:
  Nothing on this list
Progress:
Pursue Weight Loss - I've lost about 20 pounds since Labor Day. I also bought and used a treadmill.
Study Eastern teachings - I'm reading and trying to understand Tao of the Scholar-Warrior.
Garage Organization - if the garage were quandrants, two of the four are neatened and some items thrown away. I also fixed the lights in the garage (bad switch).
Barbecue - attempted repair with new feed tubes and burner, problem seems to be in gasline or valve.
Sprinklers - having someone come by for an estimate on repairs.

On 07/11/05, K2 continued developing Winter Kart
Let me steal steve's format...

Completed:

1. We met after taking a two month break.

2. We determined who is going to do what.

3. I researched CVS servers and clients.

3. I setup the CVS repository (CVSNT) server software.

4. I determined that TortoiseCVS was a good CVS client.

5. I researched Physics engines instead of the Tokamak one (Crap crap crap...) Found ODE. I hope it works... please...

6. I bought 3 books on socket programming. Yeah its stuff I can find online but... college got to me, I feel like I need to drop $150+ on books every few months...

In Progress:

1. CVS Repository server hardware. I want to setup a separate computer deticated to preserving the data of our precious game. Two 300GB SATA drives in Raid-1 with an external Maxtor 300GB USB 2.0 drive. You know, so I can take it off-site... Yeah I'm gonna have the capacity of almost a terabyte... but I'm only gonna use 1/3 of it. Can I run for governor now?

2. Began writing client-server software using winsock instead of DirectPlay. Well since microsoft decided to stop developing it... gg microsoft. kthx. ... it sucked anyways ...

Still Pending:
1. Online Goal Tracking. Our manager wants us to post regular progress reports so he can track it all in his fancy Microsoft Project. I guess we need it to be organized... ? Management is neceesariy... Management is necessary... Anyways. He wants me to develop a php script that will allow people to post their progress and then have it so it can be easily downloaded into MS Project.

2. Read the books I bought. I guess thats what you're suppose to do with them... I thought they worked great as door stops.

3. Get and clean up audio content for the game. Yeah our audio programmer can program, but when it comes to content... yeah about that... no comment. Plead the 5th.

Additional Details:

Now after reading this post and mentioning nothing of Wintercamp, you might wonder what all of the above has to do with Wintercamp. Before I can create a Wintercamp version of our racing game, I need to have a game that I can modify! Currently our game is functional with 2 players. Not much fun. 4 players, thats more like it.

In a nutshell, we need to get the game to a level where I can branch off (this is where the CVS comes into play) and I can develop my own blend of the game for Wintercamp.

This will involve:

- Custom levels of D-A. Possibly Cole but no promises.

- Custom weapons themed for wintercamp.

- Custom sound clips from different people. So if I show up at your door with a microphone, please cooperate or I'll be forced to impersonate. Which would you rather have in a game that will go down in wintercamp history?

- Custom characters. Disclaimer: We don't have characters yet. If there aren't characters in the game, I don't wanna hear any guff about it ;)

ALL OF THE ABOVE ARE OPEN FOR SUGGESTIONS!

Sorry for the long post but I haven't posted since March!

On April 7, 2005, Steve reported
Way less than weekly and I think my progress has suffered because of it.
Completed:
  Nothing on this list
Progress:
Pursue Weight Loss - I've expunged non-diet foods from my grocery list and have had only one fast food dinner in a week and that was smaller than my old "standard" order.
Study Buddhist teachings - I've been watching Kung Fu, does that count?
Watch unwatched movies - I haven't made progress on the old ones, but I haven't bought any new ones that I haven't watched.
Still Pending:
Develop Weekly quiz tool for Winter Camp
Finish After the Apocalypse for Winter Camp
Develop maintenance tool for Migisi.org Chapter and Committee pages
  More UniversalMeasurementSystem.com content
  Improved calculators for UniversalMeasurementSystem.com
Make Orcishlumberyard.com more than a placeholder
Make Weissreunion.com more than a placeholder
Make Magicmimesandmore.com more than a placeholder
  Basement tile
  Gameroom Organization
  Sprinklers
  Deck
  Hot tub
  Barbecue
  Develop Empire for Winter Camp
  Garage Organization
  Kitchen Remodel/reorg

Since it wasn't assigned to me, I haven't thought about Uranus at all.

On 3/8/05, Ethan continued to avoid doing any astronomy
I have occasionaly thought about uranus over the past few months, put haven't taken any action.

On March 1, K2 continued Senior Project
Just showed off what we had so far at "Meet the Deans" day here at Lawrence Tech. The only problem we had was our audience. Apparently the university decided to have the Middle School Science Olympia at LTU on the same day. So instead of high school seniors and college students coming up to check out our game, we had 8th graders. All was not lost though. We got a major ego boost when we saw them bring more of their friends saying, "This is the game I was telling you about man!"
Pictures are available upon request.

On February 14, Ron continued with arcade planning
We met with our architect on the house remodel and Acrade addition. Sadly, the setbacks from the property line are much larger than anticipated and we need to rework our location. Also, we have learned that we are looking at an 8-12 month delay due to lakc of availability of roofing materials and contractors. Apparently, most quality roofers have waiting lists of up to 2 years, thanks to the Hurricanes. There are still thousands of roofs with tarps covering missing shingles and exposed rafters. This will probably put a bit of a dent in my project.

On January 28, Ron continued Arcade planning
We met and engaged an architect. He is drawing preliminary plans for conceptual approval and preliminary bids. We should have the preliminary plans early next week.

On January 21, 2005, Steve continued watching unwatched movies.
This time it was the other Robin Hood movie from 1991. It starred Patrick Bergin who, as far as I could tell, played his own butt in the movie (the star of the other '91 Robin Hood, Kevin Costner, deemed it "too cold" for skinnydipping and thus had a stunt butt). The movie wasn't bad and was definitely more historically accurate (as far as costuming, geography, etc) than it's more successful competitor. I'd still say the Errol Flynn version is better, but this one isn't bad.

On January 20, 2005, Steve continued watching unwatched movies.
Shrek 2. We had to watch it fast between Joey and ER. I didn't like it as much as I liked the original - I think it lacked action. Some of the opening tribute shots were fun though.

On January 19, 2005, Steve continued watching unwatched movies.
For reasons unknown to me, Kristie had insisted that we purchase "The Others" a while back. She hates most suspense/horror movies, so I didn't get it. I did get most of the substantial plot somewhere about halfway through the movie. Overall, not one of my favorites.

On January 18, 2005, Steve continued watching unwatched movies.
This time it was the latest travesty in the name of King Arthur. Although it had more action than First Knight, it was otherwise perhaps even lamer. Lancelot believes in nothing? All the knights are pagans? Merlin and Arthur are enemies? Guineverre is a rescued pagan chick? It's one thing to stretch a legend it's another to put the name of a legend on your own story.

On January 17, 2005, Steve continued watching unwatched movies.
This time it was Resident Evil 2. I liked it. Kristie, who had gone to bed early, thought it was too loud and asked me to turn it down.

On January 17, 2005, Steve checked his progress
Still weekly so far.

On January 16,2005, Steve continued watching movies.
School of Rock was the movie this time out. I tried to get Kristie to watch "The Others" but she wasn't going for it.

On January 16, 2005, Steve completed RandInstituteofLeadership.com
Barring some good suggestions for completely new content, it's all down to maintenance now. If you'd like to be one of the maintainers, let me know.

On January 13,2005, Ron Donohue began arcade design and construction
I had a builder out to discuss the plans for a large home remodeling project which includes an arcade/gameroom. I had taken the time to draw out several potential configurations. We will be meeting with and probably hiring an architect next week to help with the overall design and to assist in the permitting process.

On January 11th, 2005 Kristie continued helping Steve organize the garage.
I would not describe moving the desk from the garage to the tortoise room as "unwittingly helped". We both have the same hobby where the garage is concerned. I would consider my effort as encouraging.

On January 11, 2005, Steve continued work on RandInstituteofLeadership.com
I added a tool to edit and add meditations - the lessons that will ultimately be attached to most quotes. I think meditations is the wrong word. Maybe tao? Changing the link to say Tao of Rand might be fun. Any suggestions?

On January 11, 2005, Kristie unwittingly helped with the garage.
She decided to take a desk from the garage and add it to the tortoise room, resulting in slightly less garage clutter.

On January 10, 2005, Steve continued work on the garage
Took out some trash, found a place for a few more things. Not enough light to do much more - maybe I'll have to improve the lighting.

On January 9, 2005, Steve began work on the garage.
I put some stuff in the now vacant shelves and began picking up a few things that were not where they should be. Another hour or so and you *might* be able to get one car in our two car garage.

On January 9, 2005, Steve continued watching unwatched movies
This time it was Van Helsing.

On January 8, 2005, Steve began watching unwatched movies. this year.
Today we watched Chronicles of Riddick and The Bourne Supremacy. I didn't care much for Riddick (we watched the director's cut) but I did enjoy Bourne. Riddick just never seemed to get in a groove (other than being sort of predictable in an Oedipus meets Conan and the Beastmaster sort of way).

On January 7, 2005, Steve checked his progress
Hopefully this will be weekly.

On January 7, 2005, Steve worked on www.randinstituteofleadership.com
It's not quite complete (needs some writing - volunteers welcome) but it is considerably more than a placeholder. Comments and suggestions welcome.

On January 6, 2005, Steve began work on Empire
I reviewed my notes and began creating tables - my previous effort had focused on doing it in perl, now php and mysql seem more likely.

On January 5, 2005, Steve and Kristie pursued kitchen reorganization
Kristie took advantage of the last few days of her Christmas vacation to give the kitchen a pretty thorough cleaning. This evening we brought in the table, chairs, and breakfront. It's not quite done, but it's a lot closer.

On January 5, 2005, Steve completed a task.
I converted the entire kurtsmithsucks site to PHP and built a tool to allow the addition of new stories to the various categories. One down, twenty-one to go.

On January 4, 2005, Steve Donohue summarized his tasks
Based on what I didn't get to last year, this is what I need to finish this year (note that some of these were started last year and may even have had significant progress)
Develop Weekly quiz tool for Winter Camp
Develop Empire for Winter Camp
Finish After the Apocalypse for Winter Camp

Pursue Weight Loss

On January 3, 2005, Steve continued updating www.wintercamp.com
He added a bunch of pages and this hobby log. His web page hobby may be one of winter camp's longest lasting.

On January 3, Steve pursued weight loss
It wasn't a giant step or anything, but I've begun parking in the last row of the parking lot at work which means I walk about three times as far to get in and out of the office as I used to.

On December 31, 2004, Steve began watching unwatched movies.
Kristie and I sat down and enjoyed the extended version of Lord of the Rings.

On December 31, 2004, Steve began Garage Reorganizing.
By ditching the kitchen to Paul and a handful of other items to Mark--> and Jeff, I left myself with more space in the garage. There is now a much greater chance of a place for everything.
