Y-Z- At the Winter Camp XVII planning meeting, it was noted by many participants that the alphabetized activities lists, both live and dead, ended with Xanth Day. Numerous suggestions from various quarters moved to fill this gap, often with little regard for practicality. Among the more arcane suggestions were Zamboni construction, yak steak meal, zymurgy (fermentation chemistry), yarn ball making contest, and yodeling. Joe Hall took top honors when he proposed yak herding as a competitive event. When questioned just prior to the vote, he explained that this would be a team competition, where teams would square off to see who could herd the fewest yaks into their pen. His suggestion received 10 votes, and will be found on the Dead List in the future.
Yottapedia- The Yottapedia was added to Encyclopedia Wintercampica in 2001. Its purpose is twofold: to include some longer essays about various aspects of the Winter Camp experience and to create a new home for some of the material from the three editions of the Winter Camp Almanac and Book of Facts which preceded the first edition of EWC.
You Don't Know Jack- This commercial trivia game made its first Winter Camp appearance at Winter Camp XXI and was an instant success. Three-man competition dotted the weekette's activities. Over the course of camp, Dave Milon rose to the top of the participant ladder, and openly challenged leading Winter Camp trivia master Mark Bollman®, who had not been playing the game, to a duel. Mark® notched $46,000 in his runaway victory, and Dave returned to battle against lesser foes.
Youth Yodel- The youth at Winter Camp XXV produced their own newspaper for Day Five, partly out of a desire to record a different perspective on the weekette's events that the competing Goon Gazette had released earlier in the week. Several events, including the 162-Dish Banquet, Hooters Dinner, and trailer rescue, were covered-somewhat differently, to be sure-in both papers.
