My name is Barry thurston, Jr. I work at the new talk/entertainment show, "Donny & Marie" in Los Angeles. We are doing a segment on camps next week and would love to find out more about Winter Camp.
Please call me at 310/244-3769 or E-Mail me at Barry_Thurston_Jr@spe.sony.com
Thanks a lot. We are doing this segment on 5/13.

From: Steve Donohue Date: May 3, 1999 - 7:18 PM To: Barry Thurston Jr. Wow! I can't believe you're interested in us. You should probably know up front that Winter Camp isn't really a camp, it's an event. Our Chapter (part of the Order of the Arrow and the Boy Scouts) has held it for the last twenty years. We spend the week between Christmas and New Year's at one of our Council Camps.
We have people travel from all over the country to attend, kind of like a reunion. This year, we have Florida and New York. We've had California and Alaska before.
If you're still interested, we'd be happy to talk about it.
From: Barry Thurston Jr Date: May 3, 1999 - 9:49 PM To: email@example.com Thanks Steve! You're the first person who has ever replied to me when I've tried contacting people through their website. I really appreciate it.
Your camp sounds pretty cool. I wouldn't mind mentioning it on our show since it sounds so unique. Would you object to a little publicity? We would make sure people knew it was only open to honor Scouts and families. But I would love to have Donny and Marie say a little something about it.
Any chance of getting some video to show?
Please let me know.
From: Steve Donohue Date: May 3, 1999 - 10:47 PM To: Barry Thurston Jr. We have video in a couple of different ways. A few years ago, we tried to make our own movie while we were at camp. It's pretty strange, since we basically filmed each scene then wrote the next one; you can see the "viewmaster" version on our webpage at http://www.wintercamp.com/movie (Are you getting an idea of how extensive our page is yet <g>?)
We also have a "highlight film" we put together a few years ago (like 7 or 8). I'll see if I can find a copy of it and send both of them to you. The highlight thing is even rougher than the movie, since we made it in my basement using a couple of VCR's and an antique sound mixer, but it conveys more of what Winter Camp is about...
I'm guessing I need to do that pretty quick if your airdate is 5/13. If you send me an address, I'll get something in the mail no later than Wednesday morning.
From: Barry Thurston Jr Date: May 3, 1999 - 9:49 PM To: firstname.lastname@example.org Hi Steve,
Any video you have would be great. Also, if you have any still pictures, we'd love to show those. I'll try to check out the video on the internet. But you can send video and stills to my attention:

Thank you so much! We will actually tape this show next Thursday, May 13th. It is slated to air on 6/1. We are syndicated throughout most of the U.S., mainly on the FOX affiliates.
Thanks again, Steve.
Okay, I was less than diligent in saving my half. Basically what followed the last was a wild scramble to beg, borrow, or steal the video, then make a copy, then blank the sound of Ron and me (among others, but mostly us) cursing
From: Barry Thurston Jr Date: May 6, 1999 - 11:04 PM To: email@example.com Hey Steve,
Thank you so much for your effort so far in trying to get us video and stills. I found out Tuesday that they don't want to talk about camps in our show next week. I was waiting to see how solid that change was going to be, because in this crazy business, things change, then change back. So, I never say never. However, as it stands right now, it doesn't look like we'll be doing our "camp" segment. But if you still want to send me some tape and stills, I'd love to take a look at them and keep Winter Camp in mind for the future.
We're scheduled to stop taping at the end of May. We're hoping to come back next season, but it's not for sure, yet. Sorry I didn't tell you about this sooner. I hope I haven't inconvenienced you at all. You've been really supportive in helping us out. And sorry about your VCR eating your tape. There's nothing that pisses me off more when that happens.
Please let me know if you still want to send tape and stills. If not, I totally understand and hopefully we'll be in touch if this "camping" segment does come to fruition.
I agreed to send the tape and stills and, of course, asked if I could include one of our world famous SASE's in search of an autograph <G>
From: Barry Thurston Jr Date: May 7, 1999 - 2:42 PM To: firstname.lastname@example.org Sure. No problem with the autographs. To whom should they make them out?
Thanks again for your understanding in this matter. Talk to ya, soon.
So ended our brush with greatness <G>
