The Quest

Description: Adults present various challenges for the youth to overcome

Description: This will be the chance for everyone to show off the skills they've acquired as they've pursued their previous year's hobby. Bragging rights will likely be awarded for best presentation, best execution, and best pursuit

Hobby Draw

Description: Learn a new hobby by next WC
Basics: The Hobby Draw is pretty simple. Each member attending Winter Camp (or his designate) presents three potential new hobbies for himself, as well as a description of some potential benefits (either personal, professional, or Winter Campical). The assembled members then conduct a secret ballot to determine the new hobby. As a new twist, last year's hobby draw added a measurement to determine success at the new hobby. Look for that to be back, and start thinking about your new hobbies today.

Time Capsule Opening

Description: There are several parts to this activity, but the core is that we bury something and several years later we dig it up
Basics: We find some items we think would be significant, including perhaps a letter to your future self. They are loaded in the capsule which is buried with some pomp and circumstance.
Hopefully 5 years later, we dig it up so you can see what you sent yourself.

Description: None Available

4-Way Volleyball

Description: 2 Nets criss-cross creating a nice X. One team is in each side and the game is played much like volleyball
Basics: Mostly plays just like volleyball, with the following changes

1)There are four teams instead of two, and two nets are placed across each other to form an X
2)Scoring starts at 0 and teams get a point every time they make a mistake
3)Score fifteen points and you're out
4)Dead courts are out of bounds
5)Service is by the team counter-clockwise from the team making the error
6)We rotate courts any time any team reaches a score divisible evenly by four

Description: Hike around the outside of camp staying within a predetermined distance from the fence.

Abduction Clue

Description: Can you figure out which Winter Camper was taken by aliens?
Basics: Someone was taken. The campers travel to various locations from a list and try to figure out who killed the dead person where and using what tools. It is basically Clue played at Winter Camp.
Equipment: Someone has to set up the mystery and provide a way to eliminate people, places, and things.

Casino Night

Description: Players are issued chips and then get a chance to test their skill at a variety of gambling tables. Usually, we include blackjack, roulette, poker, craps, and Volkswagen racing. We even had Banco one year (pretty much like blackjack, but cool enough for James Bond).
Basics: Rules are based on Casino games. The evening rules are that you can gamble until the casino closes or you go broke.

Quiet Time

Description: Every night there comes a time when the lights are mostly off and people should speak in hushed voices. This is that time.
Basics: Participants turn off lights in the sleeping areas and prepare for bed. Those who choose not to participate must speak in hushed tones and avoid using noisy equipment.

Snow Soccer

Description: Soccer is a game played with a round ball which is mostly kicked but can also be hit with just about any body part except the hand and arms. The goal is to put the ball in the opponent's net more often than they put it in yours before the game ends.
Basics: Players try to put the ball in the opponent's goal. They can hit or move the ball with just about any body part except their hand/arm.

UFO Building/Rocket Launch

Description: One part Genius Night, one part solid fuel. The UFO Building portion of this event will resemble a Genius Night, with campers attempting to prepare the coolest UFO from the components provided.
Basics: No real rules. Build your UFO using the collection of stuff provided.
Equipment: Pile of junk with several copies of the individual components.

Curling or Kickball

Description: The popular Canadian Ice game.
Basics: Game is played in 10 Ends, you score in each end. Highest total score after 10 rounds wins. The team which wins an end must go first in the next end.

The stones are slid down the ice towards a bull's eye. One point is scored for each rock closer to the center than any rock from the other team.

Description: Campers are p;ut through their paces in an activity where the suffering is the fun.
Basics: There are no rules. The game continues until you quit.

Service Project

Description: Provide labor for a project to improve camp as designated by the ranger staff
Basics: Stay safe. Don't use dangerous tools. Try to watch out for the person next to you too. Do what the rangers ask (or better).

Description: We play the Winter Camp version of Family Feud

Capture The Objective

Description: he classic Winter Camp sized game of Capture the Flag is back. Plays much like Capture the Flag except we add additional treasures to be stolen and if you're caught, it just costs your team points. After two hours of play, whichever has scored the most (or least) points is the winning team.
Basics: This game is played with points.
Getting captured costs your team points.
Stealing a treasure earns you points.
Making a capture earns points.
Stealing the objective is a lot of points.
Equipment: Objects to serve as treasure.
Object to be the objective.
Hole punch to mark captures.
ID card to get punched if caught.

Hydrogen Ballooning

Description: The goal is to fill a balloon with hydrogen, allow it to gain some altitude and then have it explode, typically by means of a fuse.
Basics: Typically, we fill a single balloon with hydrogen generated from an old weather balloon kit and using a gum out can as an engine. Running the hose from the can to the balloon through ice, snow, or water is a good idea.

Snake Hockey

Description: A dangerous game from a dangerous troop. Snake hockey is played much like regular hockey except the puck is a piece of knotted rope and the sticks are just sticks (or hockey sticks with no blades).
Basics: Each team has a net and there is a goalie who defends that net.

The teams try to put the puck in the other team's net more often than it is put in theirs. Sticks are not weapons, contact is incidental and the sticks can't go more than waist (shoulder) high.
